Even by the standards of The Troubles, Micheal McVerry had a bad reputation. Easily identifiable because he had only one hand, he lost the other hand while preparing a mortar. By the time he was shot dead by British soldiers while planting a 100lb bomb, he was wanted for questioning in relation to ten murders. Most of those murders were of Protestant farmers. At the time Sinn Fein/IRA was killing Protestants in Fermanagh, South Tyrone and South Armagh in a deliberate attempt to exterminate the community. Sean Campbell and James Lochrie were killed when their bomb they were transporting prematurely detonated. Brendan Burns and Brendan Moley were killed by their own bomb also. Brendan Burns had been linked to at least 25 killings since 1979, all bomb attacks.
